November 15, 2003

Summer seems like a distant memory the past couple of days.
Beautiful fall colors have come and gone.
Surface ice has occasionally been seen on the lakes and ponds.
Wachusett Mountain has started making snow.

And we’re still not open.

Well, the sign proclaiming ‘Re-opening 2003' may have been a bit ambitious, but we never thought it would take this long just to get started.

But bank decisions, title searches, appraisals, not to mention the discovery by the town that the zoning needed to be amended to allow us to open (!) All contributed to an incredibly slow process that has only recently been resolved. However...

FINALLY!

We have secured the funding to get this mammoth project started. And, hopefully, by this time next year you’ll be reading this inside the store, sipping some good coffee or cocoa, munching a brownie, and catching up on the latest gossip (I mean what good is a country store without local gossip?) while browsing through the organic foods, toys, candy, hardware, prepared foods, local produce and products, cheeses, etc., etc., etc.!

The paint you’ve seen recently on the front is only the beginning, and really just the surface, of all that will be, and has already, happened to the building. And even that has been difficult due to the weather! (Jeez! Is someone trying to tell me something?) Watch for more things going on, and stay updated on the developments by visiting this web site or go to the contact page to be added to our mailing list.

In the meantime...

We’re looking for local people who create (either crafts, food, clothing, produce, whatever) and who may be interested in providing product to the store once it opens. If we’ve spoken to you already, don’t be shy about checking in with us again, and if we haven’t, please contact us! We’d love to hear about your product or idea! You can contact us here or by mailing us at: Wheeler Brothers General Store, PO Box 363, Hubbardston, MA 01452.

Thanks for your patience, happy holidays, and see you next year (we promise)!
